Valuing and Market Analysis

In the past, collectors relied on early catalogs, local shows and collecting societies to purchase items. Large public auctions were also places to buy and sell. Today most of the collectors rely on a combination of online sale sites, online auctions and they only occasionally buy at local shows or annual collectors meetings.

Prices have changed significantly over the years as the internet provides transparency and rapid access to items. The internet also provides a historical view of prices. A savvy collector can easily see what others have paid for the same item. He/she will not pay more if they know the item is likely to come up again at some point. For new collectors, the internet makes entrance into the collecting field easier.
